Okadamusic: Yemi Alade : NIGERIA

Rising star and vocal powerhouse Yemi Alade is arguably becoming a household name with the release of her smash single ‘Ghen Ghen Love’ which its accompanying video is set to drop in coming weeks and she takes more strides to seal the deal by releasing two fresh numbers to appease lovers of music.
The laid back hip-hop/R&B influenced love ballad produced by the phenomenal Fliptyce titled ‘Bamboo’, set to affirm the him and the aggressive up-tempo dance track ‘Show Me’ produced by OJB Jezreel. Someone said that Yemi Alade’s ‘kpangolo’ music is what should be put on repeat by DJs in clubs and ‘Show Me’ is a proof to that statement while her romantic side surfaces in the emotional ‘Bamboo’ and of course her amazing voice shines in both songs.
Presented by Effyzzie Music Group and powered by Rebel Movement, these songs are MUST LISTEN

OKadamusicTV : PAPA NOEL : CONGO

PAPA NOEl
One of the most important members of Franco's legendary OK Jazz band, guitarist Papa Noel's quick-fingered virtuosity and light, airy touch made him a major figure in the music of Zaire (later the Democratic Republic of Congo). Born Noel Nedule circa 1941, Papa Noel grew up in Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo (the country adjacent to what became Zaire), and learned to play the guitar by copying the Afro-Cuban-derived rumba music that was becoming popular in the region. In 1957, at the age of 16, Noel made his first record with future rumba legends Orchestre Bantou (aka Les Bantous de la Capitale). In the early '60s, he replaced virtuoso guitarist Dr. Nico in Orchestra African Jazz (aka African Jazz), honing his chops with some of the best Congolese rumba players of all time. During the '70s, rumba king Franco recruited Noel to join his OK Jazz orchestra as second guitarist, and their partnership proved dynamic, Noel's lighter, sweeter touch perfectly contrasting and playing off of Franco's more aggressive lines. Papa Noel made his first solo foray in 1984, while still a member of OK Jazz. He stole away to Brazzaville with two OK Jazz bandmates, recruited a horn section from the Congolese army band, and recorded Bon Samaritain, which became a best-selling rumba classic at a time when the faster soukous style was gaining prominence. The record also enraged Noel's employer, who generally kept a tight lid on side projects (especially highly successful ones). Fortunately, the rift was mended, and Noel remained with OK Jazz until Franco's death in 1989. OK Jazz continued for a short time afterwards, then splintered amidst infighting and disputes with Franco's family over group revenue. Noel and several other members regrouped in Belgium as Bana OK, and released an album in 1993 titled Bakitani. Meanwhile, Noel resumed his solo career, recording the album Haute Tension (aka High Tension) in Paris in 1994. Noel has made numerous appearances on Peter Gabriel's WOMAD tours throughout the '90s, including appearances with former bandmate Sam Mangwana; he has continued to record as well, helming classic-style rumba albums like Nono and Mosala Makasi, as well as making guest session appearances on others' albums.

OKADAMUSICTV: ARTIST REVIEW : DIE ANTWOORD

Die Antwoord was created as a group in 2009, consisting of performers Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er, and DJ Hi-Tek. Their debut album $O$ was made available as a free download on the website. In 2009 South African cinematographer Rob Malpage (along with co-director Ninja) shot the video for their single "Enter the Ninja. The video became a great phenomenon on the internet nine months later, delivering millions of hits to the Die Antwoord interwebsite.

NINJA
Ninja (created once under the real name of Watkin Tudor Jones) is an enigma in South Africas' underground Hip-Hop and Electronic music scene since 1998. This talented and patient icon with a body full of artistic tattoos nowadays performs as the lead rapper of Die Antwoord. He's a perfectionist if it comes to music, arts and business. A hard working ninja with a goal. He claims to be the mix of many cultures and people fucked into 1 person...Let's say we can totally agree with that...(photos here)

YO-LANDI VI$$ER
Yo-landi Vi$$er is the female vocal of Die Antwoord. Not exactly the girl nextdoor, Yo-landi is different in every single way. With a haircut and a voice sharper than Ninjas' sword, she makes the crowd go insane in da zefbrain each time she climbs up the stage. The elfin-like star is just friends with Ninja (and mother of their child) who acts to be crazy about futuristic sex, her group of rats and making lots and lots of money. Who's not these days Bokkie? (photos)

DJ Hi-TEK
Lots of strange rumors about the person(s) behind DJ Hi-tek? No more zefmysteries. The highly talented beatmonster at the frontpage and in this video is the real Dj Hi-tek of Die Antwoord. Maxnormals' incredibly well-built powerhouse Justin de Nobrega a.k.a. Vuilgeboo$t takes his place when Dj hi-tek is sick of media attention or flights. So, should we keep the never-ending fairytale alive that the producer is missing again? Again? Yes. He was here just 2 minutes ago! No, he's gone indeed bru. Fok. It's a pity i know. Will he be back? He might, relax and listen to your inner zef now my blaar... - from dieantwoordzeflings.com

OKADA RECAP : I AM NOT A SEX SYMBOL - TIWA SAVAGE

TIWA SAVAGE
Beautiful Songstress, Tiwa Savage in an interview talks about her humble beginning and why she waited so long to release her debut album.
But one of the most buzzed about headlines is Tiwa’s response to being a sex symbol. “If you ask my family, I am not like that. I am a laid-back person”, she tells the publication.
Tiwa didn’t shy away from speaking on her fiancé. She spoke on why she wrote a song for him “You know the culture here. If you’re not married and just focus on your career, people would start asking questions. He understood my journey; he was able to push me career-wise and he encourages me a lot. So, I had to do a song for him.”
Excerpts

On why it took 2 years to drop her debut album – This album is from my heart and it’s something that I worked so long for. A lot of people wondered why it took so long and that’s because we had to go through a lot of legal processes to clear some of the samples that we used and that took months. Also, we wanted to work with some notable producers like Warren ‘Oak’ Felder who worked with Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. So, we had to work round their schedules and that’s why it took so long.
This is an album that I don’t want to be the usual Nigerian album with patchy tracks from beginning to end. I want it to have a meaning.
On competition with female singers – Why should I be scared of competition? Like I said on stage, you have Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and they’re all female artistes and they’re all big stars in the US. Why should it be only one person that will be known for quality music among female singers in Nigeria? I am actually glad that more female artistes are coming up.
On fond memories of Isale Eko days – Growing up, I was like a tomboy. Back then, I didn’t care about make-up or bags or shoes, I was very free. I had a very healthy upbringing.
My parents made sure I was really grounded. I had loving brothers and I remember playing around all the time when I was a kid.
On what stardom has changed about her – I was a little more out-going but I am now a bit more reserved. Some people like saying they haven’t changed a bit when they start making more money, but that’s a lie. I think you change because you’re more wary. You want to be careful and trust less easily.
I think people around me have changed too. They expect more. I’m under a microscope always. I might make a normal mistake but it will get blown up because it’s Tiwa Savage. So, I am more wary of what I do and say in public than I was before.

THE TIMES OF LEBO MATHOSA : SOUTH AFRICA

Lebo Mathosa (1977 - 23 October 2006) was a popular South African kwaito singer. Mathosa started her career with the popular South African band Boom Shaka in 1994 at the age of 15, after she caught the eye of music producer Don Laka at a club in Johannesburg. She was one of the few successful female kwaito artists in an industry dominated by males. She turned solo in 1999. Her debut solo album Dream went gold within 4 weeks of its launch in 2000. At the 2001 South African Music Awards, Mathosa won Best Dance Album for Dream, Best Dance Single for her debut single Intro from the same album, and Best Female Vocalist. Her next album, Drama Queen released in 2004, again earned the SA Music Award for Best Dance Album. She topped the South African pop charts in 2004, and in 2006 she was nominated for a British MOBO award (Best African Act category). She performed all over the world, from Southern Africa to Malaysia to Trafalgar Square in London, one of her most significant performances being at Nelson Mandela's 85th birthday party. She also toured the US with the show The Vagina Monologues. Her appearance in a show with such a positive feminist message is indicative of the attitude held by Mathosa, who, according to author Zine Magube, has become "a role model for many young South African women, [appearing] at first glance to simply be reinforcing stereotypes about the wanton nature of Black female sexuality. Some critics have argued however that Boom Shaka's female members have used 'the skimpy clothes, the gyrating hips, and simulated sex onstage to promote a variety of apposite concerns. '" This strong pro-feminist attitude combined with her often shocking onstage sexuality earned her the nickname "The New Madonna of the Townships". She was well known for her dyed blond hair, her live shows and outrageous stage outfits, and was openly bisexual. She was frequently compared to the South African singer Brenda Fassie, who died in 2004. She won the Style Best Dressed Woman of the Year Award in 2001, and was nominated by FHM magazine as one of Africa's sexiest women. Mathosa died in a car crash, aged 29, after her driver lost control of her vehicle in Johannesburg.

‘I’m better than many pastors’ – Cossy Orjiakor

Cossy Orjiakor

While answering questions in a recent interview with Punch, the actress said she’s quite aware that she is a sinner, but maybe she’s a better person than many pastors.
‘What’s the difference between I that love to show off my cleavage and the pastors that love to show off their flashy cars and private jets? I think I’m better off because with the economic situation, lots of stress and all, some can channel their frustrations and some people can get relieved at the sight that makes them forget the terrible situation’, the controversial actress said.

CONGO :KOFI OLOMIDE

KOFI OLOMIDE
Kofi Olomide was born on a friday 13th of august 1956, in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was nicknamed 'Antoine Makila Mabe' meaning, 'Bad blooded Antony'.

Young Antoine grew up in a fairly comfortable surrounding, but there were no musicians in his family. He used to have fun working on familiar, popular tunes giving them his own lyrics, changing the rhythms. A neighbour of his realised that he possessed a true talent and encouraged by teaching him the guitar.

Koffi was a skillful student and passed a scientific baccalaureate. following his diploma his father sent him to France to study Business Administration at the Bordeaux Business University. He got his diploma in 1980. At the age of 18., despite his success as a brilliant student the young man was still very attracted by arts and music in paticular, showing a gift for song writing and singing.

During the 70's he began to build a reputation amongst the Zairean community as a songwriter. 'Onia' was his first success. In 1977 Koff's brother encouragedhim to record his first songs. During his holidays, he recorded 'Asso' and 'Princesse Ya Senza' -a hommage to women- at the Veve studios in Kinshasha, from then on, he collaborated with artists such as Papa Wemba and Zaiko Langa Langa. Koffi was awarded the title of 'Best Zaire artist in the year 1978 for the single 'Aniba'

1983 was a turning point in Kofi's career, he recorded his first album 'Ngouda' and showed a strong determination in becoming a main force in African Music. Two duets were performed and recorded with Yakimi Kiesse and Fafa from Molokai.
In 1986 he started his first real group called 'Quartier Latin'. At the same time he was heavily impressed and influenced by the groups such as Kassav. After 10 years of success he also decided that he wished his career to take a more international turn.

The long awaited international fame truly started in 1988 when the song 'Henriquet' -hommage to Miss Congo- became a huge hit. From then on Koffi's nickname became 'Golden Star'.
He enjoyed a great success with the song written for his only daughter Minou called 'Elle et Moi', this song described the enormous joy and emotions that he felt after her birth.
